[EN] *Welcome to the Future!* is the first event of our Cultural 
Heritage in the Digital Age program. This exhibition proposes a 
selection of artworks and cultural documents published on floppies and 
cd-roms mostly in the 90s. It presents early pioneering works featuring 
remarkable experimentations in hypertext and hypermedia narration, 
interface design and interactivity aesthetics. This historical 
reflection on 20 years of new media art also questions the future of 
today’s born-digital content.

[FR] *Welcome to the Future!* est le premier événement de notre 
programme sur le Patrimoine Culturel à l’Ère Numérique. Cette exposition 
propose une sélection d’œuvres et de documents historiques publiés sur 
disquettes et cd-roms, principalement dans les années 90. Vous pourrez y 
consulter des œuvres fondatrices et découvrir des expérimentations en 
narration hypertexte et hypermédia, en design d’interfaces et en 
esthétiques de l’interactivité. Cette réflexion sur 20 ans d’art des 
nouveaux média est aussi une façon d’interroger le futur des contenus 
d’origine numérique créés aujourd’hui.

[NL] Op 19 maart opent in iMAL de tentoonstelling *Welcome to the 
Future!*, het eerste evenement in een reeks rond cultureel erfgoed in 
het digitale tijdperkt. Deze tentoonstelling toont een historische 
selectie van cd-rom’s over of met kunst & cultuur en digitale 
kunstwerken op floppy disk, voornamelijk geproduceerd in de jaren 90. U 
kan er enkele baanbrekend werken consulteren waaronder opmerkelijke 
experimenten op het vlak van hypertext en hypermedia vertelling, 
interface design en de esthetiek van de interactiviteit. Deze reflectie 
op 20 jaar nieuwe mediakunst stelt tegelijkertijd ook vragen over de 
toekomst van de hedendaagse born-digital content.

[EN] In the context of Welcome to the Future, iMAL proposes, in 
collaboration with PACKED, PILEn and PointCulture, an exceptional 
lecture by *Bob Stein*, one of the major and pioneering actors in 
electronic publishing, and founder of *The Voyager Company* and of the 
Institute for the Future of the Book. The lecture will be followed by a 
round table debate, moderated by Emanuel Lorrain (PACKED) and Morgane 
Batoz-Herges (PILen) and with the participation of *Étienne Mineur* 
(éditions volumiques), *Pierre Lavoie* (former Hyptique), *Eric Swenson* 
(Necro Enema Amalgamated), *Jean-Louis Boisser* and *Yves Bernard* 
(former Magic Media, iMAL).

[FR] Dans le cadre de Welcome to the Future, iMAL organise en 
collaboration avec PACKED une conférence exceptionnelle de *Bob Stein*, 
un des acteurs majeurs des débuts de l'édition électronique, fondateur 
de *The Voyager Company* et de l'Institute for the Future of the Book. 
La conférence sera suivie d'une table ronde et débat avec *Étienne

      Digital Media Archaeology in Practice

[EN] iMAL and PACKED are organising a 2-days workshop and a 1-day open 
atelier on the handling of obsolete data carriers and computer hardware. 
On April 9th and 10th, *Ben Fino-Radin*, Digital Repository Manager at 
the *Museum of Modern Art in New York*, will host a workshop on data 
preservation and access from obsolete and current media carriers. These 
two days will be followed by an open atelier by *Vincent Leclaire* 
(*Sicilium*) where participants will get advices and examples on how to 
keep legacy computer equipment working to access and experience data 
stored on obsolete carriers.

[FR] iMAL et PACKED organisent un workshop de 2 jours et un atelier 
libre d’une journée autour de la manipulation des supports de stockage 
de données et du matériel informatique obsolètes. Les 9 et 10 avril, 
*Ben Fino-Radin*, Responsable du Dépôt Numérique au *MoMA de New-York*, 
animera un workshop sur la préservation et l’accès aux données 
numériques sur les supports obsolètes et actuels. Le lendemain, lors de 
l’atelier ouvert, *Vincent Leclaire* de *Sicilium* prodigera aux 
participants des conseils pour garder leur matériel informatique actuel 
ou antique en état de marche, afin de garder accès ou de pouvoir 
exécuter des données stockées sur des supports obsolètes.

[NL] iMAL en PACKED organiseren een 2-daagse workshop en een open 
atelier over de omgang met verouderde gegevensdragers en computer 
hardware. Op 9 en 10 april geeft *Ben Fino-Radin*, digitale conservator 
in het Museum of *Modern Art in New York*, een workshop over databeheer 
van en -toegang tot vroegere en huidige mediadragers. Deze workshop 
wordt gevolgd door een open atelier door*Vincent Leclaire* (*Sicilium*), 
waar deelnemers adviezen en voorbeelden krijgen over hoe je oude 
computers kan blijven gebruiken om toegang te krijgen tot gegevens op 
verouderde dragers.
