dear alll,

mario athanasiou from channelnormal.com invited me to continue a performance-series i started in 2008.
the performance is originaly created for the whitecube but will be presented online tomorrow (so please just imagine your desktop as the whitecube).

when: The performance will take place on September 9th, 21:00 Berlin time (UTC+03)
where: http://www.channelnormal.com/
what: in the fall of 2008 Florian Kuhlmann presented the artist is present for the first time as a metamodern remix of concept art, video installation, net art and live performance at Worringer Platz in Düsseldorf. The setting is conceivably simple: Kuhlmann sits in front of his computer’s webcam and transmits the video-signal via live-stream in the otherwise completely empty exhibition space.
“The Artist Is Present” is first and foremost an ironic commentary regarding the codices of the global art system and the perception of an established image of the artist. Simply because of that already, the work pursues another approach than the eponymous and mawkish performance by Marina Abramovic that caused a stir at the MoMa, New York two years later.

Kuhlmann is certainly interested in the figure of the artist, however in this case only in a secondary way. He is rather fascinated by the question what presence and absence mean in a world that is increasingly facilitated by media and technovisual means. Is Kuhlmann during his performance present, absent, or, due to the overlarge presentation as an image, even hyperreal, i.e. is more absent than others?

hope so see you there.

sincerely
florian kuhlmann
