Dear Bâtard-visitors,

>From 2 to 5 November, Bâtard Festival is taking over the Beursschouwburg again with a four-day programme of performance, theatre, dance and film. In the picture we put the work of emerging makers and thinkers. What these artists have in common is the way they all open up a larger space for reflection, instead of limiting it with fixed structures. They present us fragile work that — uncertain in its nature and direction — invites you as a spectator to go along and discover the unknown.

This year, we will integrate some reflection moments next to the performances. With the artist talks the participating artists have the opportunity to present themselves. Together with Tom Engels (SARMA) we will also present the publication 'Performing in the age of performance, or how to do what we do relentlessly?'.

This Bâtard-edition will present the work of 11 different artist (collectives), with three real Bâtard co-productions. An overview of the selection:

 Beste Bâtard-gangers,

Van 2 tot 5 november neemt Bâtard Festival de Beursschouwburg weer over met een vierdaagse van performance, theater, dans en film. Centraal staat het werk van beginnende makers en denkers die stuk voor stuk denkruimtes openen, in plaats van het denken te omlijnen. Ze presenteren fragiel werk dat — uncertain in its nature and direction — je als toeschouwer uitnodigt om samen de sprong in het duister te nemen.

Dit jaar organiseren we reflectiemomenten ter verdieping van de voorstellingen. We geven de kunstenaars de kans om zichzelf bloot te geven in een artist talk en publiceren in samenwerking met Tom Engels (SARMA) eveneens een bundel getiteld 'Performing in the age of performance, or how to do what we do relentlessly?'

Voor deze editie selecteerden we het werk van 11 verschillende kunstenaars(collectieven), met drie echte Bâtard coproducties. Een overzicht van de selectie:

Du 2 au 5 Novembre, le Festival Bâtard s'installe à nouveau au Beursschouwburg pour 4 jours de performance, théâtre, danse et film. La place centrale revient aux artistes et penseurs émergents. Ceux-ci ont en commun une manière d'ouvrir un espace plus large à la réflexion, au lieu de le limiter aux cadres rigides et définis. Ils nous présentent des travaux qui —encore indéterminé en nature et en direction —vous donneront en tant que spectateur une liberté d'interprétation qui vous sera propre.

Cette année, nous intégrerons des moments de réflexions aux côtés des performances. Avec les artists talks, les artistes auront l'opportunité de se présenter. Ensemble avec Tom Engels (SARMA), nous présenterons la publication 'Performing in the age of performance, or how to do what we do relentlessly?'.
