Liberty (fwd)

in this email seems as if the art students are the only ones who raised
their voice. (in previous uprisings the art students were the most
apolitical ones but luckily this time is not the case)

about the translation(of the first line).
>>[For more than four weeks, the Iranian art students’ support for the
“Woman, Life, Liberty” movement ...]<<
Vs:
>>[For about four weeks, the students of many universities of the country
have been associated with the "Women, Life, Liberty" movement...]<<

from the statement there is no call/expectation for solidarity from the
global art community. and historically we now know that the white gaze
recognition has done no good to their others

in its local context is more of an echoing, energising, sympathising and
aligning with other universities and student movements and invite the
privileged ones in the power position to support the students in their
field.
the attempt by addressing the educational ministry and intelligence
agencies is not a demand for change in their behaviour but rather
documenting their policies. (this list of names can sign the statement
easier both bc many of them are outside the country and in general the art
activities are not much dependent on the governmental relationships)

in contrary in the global context can be read as if you can make the change
by your signature:)
i don't mean to dismiss but there are many more crucial statements which
needs to be heard globally(/also in the art context) and this one email is
more of a change, org pity petition.
i don't like elitism, the art students we talk in here are about the ones
in city of Tehran. there are many more universities/students in the country
which are paying a lot and as cultural workers/art community you have the
access, privilege and knowledge for shedding light on the periphery which
are the main sustainer and continuator of the movements and are the most
unrepresented and silenced ones

(all in all in the local context its exclusivity is partly a tactic to
raise your voice and show solidarity but at the same time is where that has
the potential to be inclusive)
