Description

The Department of Art at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Art and AI beginning August 16, 2023. The ideal candidate should have expertise in the developing field of Artificial Intelligence, as well as a background in other digital arts disciplines, such as digital art, digital design, video, or new media. The applicant will be responsible for envisioning how AI, generative and data-driven art, and new and emerging media, could best be integrated into a contemporary art program to chart new territories, foster experimentation, collaboration, and innovation across fields and disciplines. The applicant should be engaged in the conceptual, ethical, philosophical, and representational questions that AI probes. Familiarity with contemporary art discourse, along with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and active creative practice are necessary. Candidates will teach both beginning and advanced undergraduate courses.

Artificial intelligence is part of the College of Arts and Science<https://as.vanderbilt.edu/>’s Grand Challenge Initiative<https://as.vanderbilt.edu/research/grand-challenge.php>, which seeks to address, engage, and intervene in especially pressing social, cultural, and political issues. The teaching load is two courses each semester and salary and benefits are highly competitive. Applicants must have received their MFA or Ph.D. (earned by August 1, 2023.)
