Dear all,

We invite artists, theorists, researchers, designers, and
technologists working across life, sound, and food (not limited) to
submit their work for POM Fukuoka 2027.

Politics of the Machines (POM) is an international platform dedicated
to exploring the shifting relations between humans, machines, and the
ecologies of mediation that bind them. Since its inception, POM has
brought together artists, theorists, researchers, designers, and
technologists to examine how forms of agency, perception, and
communication emerge across human and nonhuman systems.

The 6th edition of POM Conference will take place in Fukuoka, Japan,
form March 17-20, 2027 at Kyushu University - Ohashi Campus. This
time's theme is Culturing Transduction. We welcome submissions in a
range of formats, including academic papers, lecture-performances,
artistic interventions, and workshops under the following tracks.
Proposals for alternative formats are also encouraged and will be
considered by the conference organizers. Please indicate your intended
presentation format in your submission.

- Track 08 Fermentative Systems.
- Track 09 Unhearing Bodies: Life as Transduction.
-Track 10 (Open Track) Speculations and Culturing Immature Ideas.

How can we reformulate the critical relationship between humans and
machines from experimental artistic and scientific perspectives? How
can we cultivate alternatives to dominant modes of thought in an era
of crisis, marked by intensifying geopolitical conflict and economic
inequality? Addressing these questions under the theme of Culturing
Transduction, POM Fukuoka 2027 examines how processes of
transformation across life, sound, and food might be reimagined, and
how these processes shape artistic creation, cultural production, and
perception. As the first POM to be held in East Asia, this theme
brings these three domains into dialogue while drawing on the
distinctive facilities of the venue, Kyushu University Ohashi Campus,
including the Biofood Lab and the Acoustic Research Center.

Applicants are invited to submit an abstract of up to 500 words under
one of the conference tracks by 30 August 2026. Submissions that do
not specify a track will be assigned by the conference organizers to
the most appropriate one.

All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer-review process.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work as
part of the conference program.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be required to register for the
conference in order to present their work. Following the conference,
they will also be invited to submit a full paper of up to 4,000 words,
including references. Further details and a formal call for papers
will be announced in due course.
