The Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University is accepting
applications for a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship beginning July 1, 2026.
This funded fellowship supports the development of an original research
project working in the areas of media, communication studies, and/or
practice with a focus on technological innovation, the development of new
production models for artists and critical discourses in emerging media.
Applicants must have completed a PhD in a discipline relevant to the
position’s terms prior to beginning the fellowship. Previous teaching
experience and evidence of scholarly research and publication related to
the terms of the position will also be considered an asset. A postdoctoral
supervisor will be named based on the successful candidate’s field of
specialization.
The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active scholarly
profile and to teach two semester-long courses per year in their subject
field.
*The candidate will:*
- Develop a rigorous research profile around new and emerging media
technologies, including but not limited to AR, VR, media façades, and AI
- Develop curricula to assist film, media and visual arts students in
developing their own artistic and research projects and assist young
academics working in the field of media and communications as they assess
their relationship with artificial intelligence and other emerging
technologies.
A postdoctoral supervisor will be named based on the successful candidate’s
field of specialization.
The total salary for 2026-2027 will be approximately $75,000 CAD per year,
comprising a fellowship salary and a teaching stipend for 2 one-term
courses per year. Additional funds have been allocated for academic travel
and research.

5. any other relevant materials the candidate wishes to submit for
consideration such as a teaching dossier or artist portfolio
