The complete work will be shown at the 29th Bienal de São Paulo this autumn.

Miceli travelled to Belarus several times over a period of three years and this publication will combine collected photographs from her travels to the exclusion zone around the reactor, subjective personal readings and official documents such as visas that have become key elements of the project itself.

The documents gathered in the publication, usually withheld from the exhibition visitor, define the scope of social, political and personal parameters encountered and their essential role within the project and its development. Similar to the proceedings within her photographic and cinematic works, here the inconspicuous or invisible is being made visible by questioning what is considered to be normal.

The publication is therefore not only an integral part of the work along with the films and negatives that have so far formed the Chernobyl Project, but will allow a deeper insight into the thoughts and work processes of the artist and her examination of her experiences and encounters beyond the creation of the final exhibition works.

On the occasion of the book launch the artist Alice Miceli will talk about the finalized project at HEROES in Berlin. The publication will be available for sale at a reduced launch rate.

Alice Miceli
Chernobyl Project
With texts by Paula Alzugaray, Raïssa de Góes, Alice Miceli, Gunalan Nadarajan
Published by SEVERAL PURSUITS, Berlin
English/Portuguese, Edition of 300
Design by Robert Samuel Hanson
ISBN 978-3-00-031673-9

Further informationen on Alice Miceli's Chernobyl Project:

Radioaktive Bilder von Alice Miceli - Interview on ARTE TV (in German)
http://www.arte.tv/de/Videos-auf-ARTE-TV/2151166,CmC175390.html

Blog of the Chernobyl Project
http://www.premiosergiomotta.org.br/blog/chernobyl2.php

Chernobyl Project at transmediale.10, Berlin
http://www.transmediale.de/en/chernobyl-project-invisible-stain

Chernobyl Project at transitio_mx 2009, México D.F.
http://en.transitiomx.net/programa/eventos/21

Chernobyl Project at the 29th Biennial in São Paulo, Brazil
http://www.fbsp.org.br/29_bienal_participantes_en.html
