performances, such as CrowdDJ by Tom Laan, and Nomadic Sound System
by Ben Newland; turn the audience into co-performers, others,
like Microscopic Opera by Matthijs Munnik, Evolving Spark Network by
Edwin van der Heide and SPASM 2.0 by V2_Lab; give rise to entirely
new modes of listening. As always at Test_Lab, you can touch it,
bring it, pay it, watch it, turn it, leave it, start, format it…
V2_Agency Update: Physiognomic Scrutinizer on tour
Various locations
Spring and summer 2011

Physiognomic Scrutinizer is going on tour. The installation by
Marnix de Nijs, distributed by V2_Agency, serves as a reminder that
contemporary surveillance technologies should be viewed with a
healthy skepticism. Aided by biometric video analysis software, the
interactive installation scrutinizes visitors’ faces and compares
them to those in a database of more than 250 well-known people who
have committed controversial and infamous acts. Physiognomic
Scrutinizer will be on display in the French cities of Creteil,
Maubeuge and Lille this spring and summer as part of the traveling
exhibition Paranoia, hosted by three major festivals.
