The Collapse, Part Two:
FINANCE: THE POLITICAL STAKES
http://www.gaite-lyrique.net/evenement/enjeux-politiques-de-la-finance

At the hour of its separation from the so-called "real economy,"
finance has become a central actor in the global political
landscape.
The economist and writer André Orléan describes the current state of
finance as an all pervasive “thought of life”.

Finance dictates most of the main political axes today:
austerity, rigor, dismantling of public policies, compression of
salaries, ...

Furthermore, it undermines the foundations of the institutions of
our time:
currencies, sovereign states, Europe ...

We are witnessing a global collapse.

How did finance impose itself onto the political field?
Does its power come from its technical innovations, from the extreme
complexity of financial products?
What are the consequences of these innovations for the modes of
governance?
How is the power between states and markets distributed? What are
the possible counter strategies against the power of finance?

With:
Franco Berardi, François Morin, Antoinette Rouvroy, Marc
Swynghedauw.

François Morin (economist) will present the recent emergence of
globalized finance,
its logical expansion, speculative bubbles, and hypertrophy;

Marc Swynghedauw (physicist and programmer, Ex Quant)
will speak about the technical aspects of finance,
and the evolution of market behavior in the last decade;

Antoinette Rouvroy (Research in Law and Computer Science, University
of Namur, Belgium)
will explain the concept of 'algorithmic governmentality',
the links between data mining, mathematical models, prediction and
power;

Franco Berardi (Italian philosopher and activist) will be speaking
about the relation between language, finance,
and poetical excess of the movement, in the framework of the
research of a strategy of autonomy from financial capitalism.
