<div>On the Threshold of Beauty: Philips and the Origins of Electronic Music in the Netherlands 1925–1965 describes a period of music history in which an entirely new world of electronic sounds and compositional attitudes was developed and explored, ranging from avant-garde extremes to the earliest experiments in electronic pop; from the music for the iconic Philips Pavilion at the 1958 World's Fair to electronic soundtracks for film. After a number of presentations elsewhere, V2_ finally hosts a book presentation at V2_, as part of the side program of the exhibition Key by Media Technology Leiden.</div>

<div>Key is an exhibition with new works from the MSc Media Technology in Leiden. This is a place where students are encouraged to develop a creative approach to science. Key is the global theme for this year’s semester project. From this global theme eight sub-themes are derived: encode/decode, DNA, unique, private, access, gate, solution, and Leiden. In addition to the exhibition our program includes several events: several public lectures, and a Meet the Makers session in which the participating students explain what brought them to their installations.</div>

<div>Students of the new WDKA Digital Craft minor present objects to inspire, wonder, and that reflect on our relationship with craft in times of electronic, digital, and networked media.</div><div>Digital craftsmen are makers before everything else: they get their hands dirty, burn their fingers with soldering irons, test and tweak computer-aided tools, and appropriate whatever is at their disposal. They make objects to inspire and make us wonder and reflect on our relationship with craft in times of electronic, digital, and networked media. 21 students representing 9 different departments who came together in the first ever Digital Craft minor at the Willem de Kooning Academy present their work at the two-day Digital Crafts exhibition. The public is invited to witness their progress and engage with emerging practices in craft and technology.</div>

<div>Rotterdam-based artist Melle Smets and sociologist Joost van Onna followed the trail of discarded Western car parts and ended up in a place called Suame Magazine in Ghana, where this scrap is processed and marketed by some 200,000 highly specialized technicians in 12,000 informal workshops. Smets and Onna turned this trail to Suame completely around and together with the local mechanics of Suame Magazine produced the first car to ever be exported from this region to the West. Once even the King of Ghana visited Suame Magazine to see it with his own eyes, it was clear to the Ghanaian media: These European ‘benefactors’ will bring Ghana a car industry. Can Smets and Onna meet such high expectations? V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media presents their answers in the exhibition Turtle 1: The Sequel. The exhibition opens on Museum Night 8 March.</div>
