Das Grimmuseum freut sich die erste Einzelausstellung des dänischen Künstlers Dan Stockholm in Berlin zu präsentieren. Nach der Begegnung bei <em>Grosses Treffen </em>in der Nordischen Botschaft in Berlin 2013 erarbeitete Stockholm für das Grimmuseum ein Ausstellungsprojekt, das zwei neue skulpturale Werkgruppen umfasst. Die neuen Arbeiten untersuchen den Prozess des Schauens und des Berührens als eine Methode, Formen und Konturen von Orten aufzuspüren und zu erfassen. Dabei werden die Sinneswahrnehmungen auf ihre Fähigkeit geprüft Erinnerungen zu erzeugen und den bestehenden Zustzu erfassen.<br>
<br>
Die Kollaboration mit der IT University of Copenhagen ermöglichte Stockholm die Methode des Eyetrackings für seine Arbeiten einzusetzen. Er nutzt den Eyetracker, ein technisches Hilfsmittel zur Aufzeichnung von Augen – bzw. Blickbewegungen, um Fotografien von archäologischen Stätten und Ruinen zu betrachten, die er in den letzten zehn Jahren rund um die Welt besucht hat. Die Bewegungsabläufe des Auges, das die Fotografie abtastet, werden in Diagramme übersetzt, die wiederum als Vorlage für die Werkgruppe <em>The Phantoms</em>, eine Serie von großen Stahlskulpturen, dienen. <em>The Phantoms</em> werden mit der Architektur des Grimmuseums und dem anderen Werkkomplex Stockholms – der ortspezifischen Arbeit <em>Archive of Surfaces</em> – in ein Wechselspiel treten.<br>
<br>
In <em>Archive of surfaces </em>werden verschiedene architektonische Details und Oberflächen vom Gebäude des Grimmuseums und dessen Ausstellungsräume reproduziert. Dafür reibt Stockholm mit Metallfolie an den Oberflächen bestimmter räumlicher Einheiten, wodurch Negativabdrücke des Raumes entstehen, die als Gießform für die endgültigen Arbeiten genutzt werden.<br>
Stockholm beschäftigt sich in seinen Arbeiten mit den Überlagerungen von Geschichten verschiedener Orte, die physisch zerfallen oder sich verändern. In der Ausstellung werden die skulpturalen Aufzeichnungen des erstarrten Blicks und die Abdrücke architektonischer Elemente zu Relikten des gegenwärtigen Zustandes.<br>
<br>
<strong>Dan Stockholm</strong>, geboren 1982, lebt und arbeitet in Kopenhagen. Er arbeitet vorrangig mit Skulpturen und Objekten. Sein Prozess bezieht gleichsam die Produktion im Studio, Feldstudien, Recherche und Forschung mit ein. In seinen Werken untersucht er die Frage, inwiefern ortspezifische Werke als etwas Neues und Losgelöstes zwischen Ort und Objekt hervortreten können. Meist sind verschiedene Orte in seinen Arbeiten physisch präsent, sei es als materielle Anwesenheit oder in Form von Referenzen. In seinen neuesten Werken untersucht er den von ihm so genannten <em>Performative Process</em>. Dieser Begriff beschreibt seine komplizierten Arbeitsprozesse, die nicht durch das Betrachten des Werkes zugänglich sind, sondern eher durch Narrationen, die im Nachhinein erzählt werden können. Dies steht in Zusammenhang seiner Untersuchung, was passiert, wenn Kunstwerke sich zwischen dem Visuellen und dem Imaginierten bewegen.<br>
<br>
Dan Stockholm studierte an der Funen Art Academy, Odense in Dänemark, an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Frankfurt am Main und am Institut für Raumexperimente, Berlin. Er hat seine Arbeiten sowohl in zahlreichen Institutionen und Projekträumen in Dänemark und Berlin gezeigt, als auch in der Malmö Konstholl, Schweden, 2013, Lo10 Kunstenfestival, Lo-reninge, Belgien 2012, MOT Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan 2011, Reykjavik Art Museum, Island 2011, Townhouse, Cairo, Ägypten, 2008.<br>

Grimmuseum is pleased to announce the first solo show in Berlin by Dan Stockholm (1982, DK). After meeting each other at <em>Grosses Treffen</em> at the Nordic Embassies, Berlin in 2013 Stockholm developed an exhibition project for the Grimmuseum presenting two new sculptural bodies of works. These are based on the act of looking and touching as processes of tracking shapes of places and objects, exploring the potentialities of both senses in developing memories and in recording the existent.<br>
<br>
Collaborating with the IT University of Copenhagen enabled Stockholm to work with an Eyetracker, a device that traces the movements of the eye. Stockholm uses the Eyetracker to look at photographs of different archaeological ruins from around the world that he has been visiting during the last ten years. The resulting diagrams from tracing the movement of his eye across the photographs have become the blueprints for <em>The Phantoms</em>, a series of large iron sculptures. <em>The Phantoms</em> will interact with the architecture of Grimmuseum and with Stockholm’s other body of work, the site-specific series <em>Archive of surfaces</em>.<br>
<br>
<em>Archive of surfaces</em> consists of various casts that are made from solid plaster and reproduce different architectural details and surfaces of the exhibition space and of the building itself, whose facade is listed as an architectural landmark. The casts have been produced by a careful process that begins with Stockholm rubbing metal foil on the various surfaces of Grimmuseum. These negative rubbings of the space go on to become the moulds of the final works, which he is producing during his stay in Berlin prior to the opening.<br>
Stockholm addresses the stratification process of narratives of places through their physical decay and alteration. A frozen gaze and the traces of architectural elements become remains of the current condition.<br>
<br>
<strong>Dan Stockholm</strong> lives and works in Copenhagen and Aarhus. He primarily works with sculpture and objects. His working method involves equal parts: studio work, field praxis and research. In his work, he investigates if the site specific can come into existence as something new between site and object. Often different localities are physically present in the works – in a material sense or existing of references In his latest works he has been working with what he calls <em>Performative Process</em>: His complicated processes cannot be accessed by viewing the work; but rather through narratives that can be activated in retrospect. This mirrors another interest of Stockholm’s, namely that which happens when works oscillate between the seeing act and the imagination.<br>
