knew Alexei in the late 1990s/2000s in London and Berlin, whether running Open
Wireless aerial building workshops together at the University of Openness in
London's East End — a self instituted university — or at the <a href="https://www.metamute.org/editorial/articles/libre-non-gratis-berlon">BerLon</a>
‘PicoPeering Agreement' meeting in Bootlab or at 'Wizards of OS' FOSS
conference — both in Berlin, where Alexei would be demoing the 'Hive'
mesh-networking WiFi system.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial">Alexei
was always the one driving things forward, quiet crazily — with wires popping
out all over the place, a continual work-in-progress, but importantly with the
courage that makes a true artist — that of not needing to inhabit the persona
