Radio Insomnia
7-9 July 2023 - Tiohtià:ke/Montréal
A dilation of night and a tightening of the ear
https://insomnia.radio.fm

Radio Insomnia is an ephemeral radio station for insomniacs and
nocturnal communities, that explores the poetic and political
aspects of wakefulness and insomnia. What is the potential of
night-time radio when wakefulness is embraced rather than endured?
Can we listen "with" insomnia, rather than fight against it for
productivity? Why loosen the grip on insomnia when we can tighten
our ear?

Broadcast live from 9 pm to 6 am, programs unfold over two nights
until 6 am, with performed works by Montreal-based artists, sonic
artworks and discussions with special guests who explore the social
implications of wakefulness at night: chrono-normativity, solitude
and isolation, intimacy, the poetic experience of dilated time and
the reappropriation of nocturnal time in public space.
About
Radio Insomnia is a collaboration between French curator Anabelle
Lacroix and radio artist Nicolas Montgermont. The project is created
during a residency and as a public program that responds to the
exhibition InSomnolence developed by The Sociability of Sleep
research group at McGill University and Université de Montreal, as
the result of two years of research and creation activities
supported by the Government of Canada’s New Frontiers in Research
Fund (NFRF).
