Usually it has a fixed view with movement derived from the environment; the flow of the river, the swaying of the trees for example. … observing general movement with small seemingly random secondary, movements reoccurring. It is contemplative and reflective. It is these aspects which give a sense of surprise and wonder, and which are often missed in today’s world.”<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">The calmness in the work gives little clue to the rigorous effort necessary to bend a 3D computer animation system to your will, but what it does do is draw our attention to look anew at the kind of natural phenomena that he chose as his subject matter.<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Hardie exhibited nationally and internationally, including at SIGGRAPH Art Shows in the USA (2004, 2006, 2007), Glastonbury Festival (2009) and ISEA Istanbul (2011).<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Speaker:<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Stephen Bell PhD, is an artist whose work also explores the use of computer graphics in interpretations of natural phenomena. Bell began to use computer graphics for his art in 1977 as a graduate student at The Slade School of Fine Art, was Artist in Residence at The Computing Laboratory at the University of Kent at Canterbury from 1984—85, then studied for a PhD in interactive art. He worked with Peter Hardie on masters and undergraduate courses, and in art research at the National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University from 1989 to 2017. <o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">The event will be recorded and uploaded to the CAS YouTube Channel.<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"> <o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="background: yellow;">This event is open to the public and is free but you must book your place here</span>: <a href="https://computerartssociety160224.eventbrite.co.uk/" style="color: rgb(149, 79, 114);">https://computerartssociety160224.eventbrite.co.uk/</a><o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">__________________________<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Our next meeting is <i>AI Creative Writing & Art Anthology Second Edition</i> by Geoff Davis and Friends on 21 February 2024<o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><br>You can see our future programme here: <o:p></o:p></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><a href="https://computer-arts-society.com/events/index.html" style="color: rgb(149, 79, 114);">https://computer-arts-society.com/events/index.html</a><span class="MsoHyperlink" style="color: rgb(5, 99, 193); text-decoration: underline;"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin: 0cm -2.6pt 0cm 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p> </o:p></div>
