> In today's globalised world, travel and tourism are tricky matters. Postmodern holidaymakers not only have to deal with the environmental crime of their casual waste of jet fuel, but must also risk accusations that theyâ?Tre exploiting fragile local populations. Forsake the overseas option, though, and you run another risk - that your holiday will become a kitsch Brighton rock-and-rain joke. Obviously, then, the cleanest, most ethical, most rewarding getaway is one supplied by tank.tv's latest collection: switch on and lie back to explore all these deeply modern anxieties from the safety of the sofa. Alongside a host of amateur films of, and by, ordinary holidaymakers are works by artists who deal more self-consciously with such themes, including a piece by the ESCAPE collective, which represented Russia at the 2005 Venice Biennale.

> Doug Fishbone works with video slide shows and time-based installations and achieved notoriety with his 2004 installation of 30,000 bananas in Trafalgar Square. The American combines appropriated imagery with what he describes as "a rambling, stand-up comedy approach to narrative," one that hijacks the viewer's attention through blunt commentary and humour. His award-winning short The Ugly American deals with the vulgarities of a media-saturated world, exploring the commodification of travel, among other things, through the eyes of the Ugly American (a darkly comic version of a Michel Houellebecq character). The culturally insensitive tourist talks over a montage of tacky postcards and found photos in a litany of un-PC clangers, shades of everyoneâ?Ts dreaded holiday slideshow.

> Los Conquistadores, by Iranian artist Shahram Entekhabi, compiles photographs of tourists holidaying in Lanzarote. Through an accumulation of images, Entekhabi comments on how the island has been invaded by pale, overweight, poorly dressed tourists, juxtaposing them with pictures of the hundreds of African refugees who continually attempt to cross the 160 kilometres of sea from Morocco, despite the very real possibility of drowning.

> Judith Goddard's American Series deals with idealised mythologies of the American West. Monument Valley - Lost and Vegas Strip both appropriate what Goddard calls a "second-hand sublime," where the tourist becomes not the predictable viewer and consumer of nature, but a traveller traversing carefully constructed and idealised images of the US, as perpetuated through its romanticised visual history on the TV and silver screen. If that's all too much for you, maybe you need a holiday after all.
