The anniversary edition of VIPER | INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR FILM VIDEO AND
NEW MEDIA will open with the live-performance NEXT IMAGE by the Argentine
Artist Pablo Ribot (*1968, Buenos Aires). Ribot studied music and Applied
Arts at the National University, La Plata in Buenos Aires. In 2000 he
received a grant of the Xavier Corberó Foundation in Barcelona, where he
lives today. As a composer and video artist Pablo Ribot is an international
insider tip, having received an extraordinary reputation with distinguished
performances in America and also increasingly in Europe. 25TH VIPER presents
Pablo Ribot for the first time in Switzerland - the artist performs a
composition of electronic music and film. Against the setting of computer
generated as well as orchestrated sound backdrops, Ribot creates impressive
image sequences and, from the rather contrasting principles of the loop and
the random generator, fascinating image/sound compositions..

Long-term warp-artist Mira Calix (Chantal Passamonte,*1970) hits the road
with her new live-project "Alexander's Annexe". The project resulted from
the ground-breaking cooperation between Mira Calix and the London
Sinfonietta. Calix creates works that address the tradition of musical
boundaries and that examine entirely new performance possibilities,
permanently focusing on improvisation within clearly defined structures. In
the context of 25TH VIPER, Mira Calix performs for the first time in Basel.

The duo dieb13 (Dieter Kovacic (*1973) und Billy Roisz (*1976) live and work
in Vienna. They perform world-wide in the context of avant-garde festivals
(Sonar Barcelona, Tampere Filmfestival, Image Forum Tokyo). The artists use
audio/ video hardware and signals as instruments and distort these through
physical interaction and feedback processes. With self-constructed mixers,
synthesizers and computers and by utilising custom-made linux-based
software, the duo succeeds in transforming the abstraction of the technical
signal into visual/acoustic frescos of bizarre beauty.

AMBIENTADOR is a machine for generating and performing audio-visual
compositions in real-time. With the AMBIENTADOR the performance group FUSS!
(Raul Marco Padilla, Guillermo Lopez, Timo Daum) has constructed an ultimate
sampling machine - the flash-based multimedia application serves during the
performance as an instrument and can be used via the internet or as an
individual installation. During 25TH VIPER FUSS! performs live and
demonstrates that even the perfect machine needs to brought to life for an
extraordinary audiovisual experience.

The Switzerland-based media artist Sven König (*1975) pushes with his
installation and performance sCrAmBlEd?HaCkZ! the fragile nature of digital
information storage to the limit. "Copyright-abusing-machine" and creative
intelligence instrument at the same time, sCrAmBlEd?HaCkZ! is described as a
bastard between database and solo tool that allows the artist as a sensitive
composer for radical plagiarism.
