Let’s Get Physical - arduino a new material for design?
is a project during DMY extended 2009. The exhibition is from 3rd -
7th of June 2009.

With Arduino things become creatures. Arduino is a opensource platform
for developing activ-dynamic
designs without the help of technicians and engineers. Static product
design can be extended to a
timebased design. Objects can not only be processed physically, but
get dynamic by digital electronics.

“AirPiano” (Omer Yosha), “scan&see” (Akitoshi Honda) and a prototyp of
“united-pulse - remote intimacy”
(Julia Werner) curated by Shintaro Miyazaki and friendly supported by
Reto Wettach (Interaction Design Lab FH Potsdam).

Exhibition place: betahaus, Prinzessinnenstraße 19-20, Berlin-
Kreuzberg (U8 Moritzplatz).

Opening hours:

wed 3.6. 10-20h
thu 4.6. 10-17h, then bbq / grillparty / clubmusic
fr 5.6. 10-20h
sa 10-18h
so 12-15h

Special Performance with Airpiano: Thursday 4th of June 2000 (8 p.m)
with rac_ka (toru koda & kanade amano)

united-pulse ring -Feel your Partner´s Pulse
2008 by Julia Werner

United-pulse is a device that creates remote intimacy by the use of
two rings. Each ring can measure the
wearer’s heartbeat and send it to the partner’s ring. Hereby,
artificial corporeality is created between the
couple. By means of a working prototype, united-pulse has been
successfully tested. Through the heartbeat
– the essential vital sign – a feeling of being very close to the
partner is provided. Touching the ring allows
a small moment of intimacy in situations where emotional support is
needed.

AirPiano
2007 by Omer Yosha

The AirPiano is an innovative musical interface which allows playing
and controlling software instruments simply by moving hands in the air.

Above the AirPiano is a virtual matrix of keys and faders assigned
with MIDI/OSC messages.
Visual LED feedback onboard provides orientation and confirms user
actions. The AirPiano
Software allows to map each key/fader individually into sounds and
functions.

The AirPiano is still in its prototype phase and its concept of a
virtual matrix might eventually
be used also for other applications and purposes.
Specifications: Polyphonic, MIDI/OSC protocol, Up to 24 keys / 8
faders, Velocity sensitivity, USB connectivity

Scan&See
2009 by Akitoshi Honda

Scan&See is transforming patterns into blinking lights. After scanning
a two dimensional object with the
backside of Scan&See, you can shake the interactive device and you
will see a representation of the
scanned logo. The optical sensors and the blinking LEDs are controlled
with an arduino.
