Mouse- und Keyboard-Hack - ein einfaches Universalinterface

Interaktiven Kunst-Installationen haftet etwas Geheimnisvolles an: 
Videos reagieren auf Besucher, Flash Filme ändern die Erscheinung, 
Klangkunst wird durch Berührung aktiviert. Das dahinter oft ein Minimum 
an technischen Aufwand steht, ist für die Besucher nicht erkennbar. Das 
am besten funktionierenden Interface des Computers, die Maus und die 
Tastatur können durch einfache Manipulation große Wirkung erzielen. Maus 
und Keyboard funktionieren mit USB oder Funk, sie werden von nahezu 
jeder Software unterstützt, sind unabhängig vom jeweiligen 
Betriebssystem und darüber hinaus noch äußerst preiswert. All diese 
Eigenschaften machen sie zum idealen Interface um die eigene Kunst neuem 
Publikum und damit einer größeren Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen.

Dieser Workshop richtet sich an Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene. Im Kurs 
werden zunächst die Funktionsweisen von diversen Mäusen und Tastaturen 
erläutert, sowie deren Grundlagen vermittelt. Anschließend werden 
Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt und ausprobiert, diese so zu manipulieren und 
mit Sensoren auszustatten, dass sie universell als Interface einsetzbar 
sind.

Entsprechen den Wünschen und Vorkenntnissen der Teilnehmenden werden sie 
in verschiedenen Programmierumgebungen (z.B. Max MSP, Pure Data, Flash 
und Director) eingebunden. Ziel ist es, im Kurs kleine interaktive 
Videopräsentationen zu realisieren und somit, virtuell eine 
Ausstellungssituation durch zuspielen.

Auch besteht die Möglichkeit einen „Mouse Board“ für den 
Arduino-Controller zu bauen. Dieser würde jedem Arduino erlauben, 
plattformübergreifend an jedem Computer als Maus erkannt und 
dementsprechend auch in div. Installationen als einfaches Interface 
eingesetzt zu werden.

Der Workshop wird in deutsch gehalten, Rückfragen auf englisch sind 
willkommen.

Mouse and keyboard hack - the way for a simple and universal interface


Mouse and keyboards are among the best working interfaces for a 
computer. They work wireless or with USB, they are supported by most 
software and every OS. And the best is each of them has its own 
interrupt. Above all they are cheap and reliable. That’s why they are 
the perfect base for an artist’s universal interface. You simply must 
hack them!

In the workshop I’ll show you how mice and keyboards function. 
Furthermore I’ll show you how you can hack them and how you can connect 
those keyboards/ mice with switches and sensors. Additional I’ll show 
some tricks and circuit to turn of the “tilt-function” of a keyboard.

The workshop will enable you to use hacked keyboards and mice for 
creating your own interactive installation. It is although possible to 
develop a universal Arduino Mouse Shield, which allows the communication 
between software and an Arduino pretending to be a computer mouse.

The course language is German. Please feel free to ask questions in 
English.
