A new series Connected Concerts starts on 3 May with Orpheus Crystal, =
an
opera by Manfred Stahnke. It is a coproduction with the eigth Muncher
Biennale. Repeats take place on 4 and 6 May. The opera is performed =
live
on stage in Munchen, with audio input from Amsterdam, New York and San
Francisco. By combining new media and innovative technologies with the
traditional art of opera, a new form of musical theater has been
developed. The international partners represent the voices from the
underworld. Waag Society is the Amsterdam host of internet performers
Erhard Hirt on guitar and Anne LaBerg on flute, with instrumentalist
Marko Ciciliani and violinist Barbara Lunenberg at STEIM.

For Waag Society this event marks the start of the Connected Concerts
series, in which (inter)national locations will be connected for live
performances. In the near future even more advanced experiments will be

        PUBLIC RESEARCH
2 13 MEI KILLER (APPLICATION IS PEOPLE) CLUB: DELHI DEVELOPMENTS
The Killer (Application is People) Club of 13 May is devoted to Delhi
Developments and the experiences with the exchangeprogramme of new =
media
centre Sarai and Waag Society.=20
The Waag - Sarai exchange programme started at the opening of Sarai in
February 2001 and runs to the end of 2003. The mission of the programme
is to set up projects in the public space of Delhi and to formulate a
mutual agenda for new media and culture in South Asia and Europe.=20
The experiences so far indicate that setting up Open Source projects =
and
conquering the public space in India isn't as straighforward as it =
might
seem. Its practice will be talked about by Ravi Sundaram, one of =
Sarai's
founders. Francois Laureys (International Institute for Cultural
Development) will discuss the role of community radio.
At the evening the second Sarai reader 02, The Cities of Everyday Life,
will be presented. Contributors to the reader are a.o. Geert Lovink, =
Ole
Bouman, Matthew Fuller and Patrice Riemens.
The reader can be ordered from Amazon.com

4.2 INDYMEDIA.NL THREATENED WITH LEGAL ACTION
Indymedia.nl issued a statement that it will not scrap links from its
site to the website of Radikal. The press release was a reply to the
letter of a lawyer representing Deutsche Bahn A.G. in which =
Indymedia.nl
is urged to stop referring to the Radikal site. These links concerns
mirror sites, which in turn only lists a large number of articles.
Recently a legal decision forced XS4all to ban internetpages of some of
its subscribers.=20
Waag Society hosts Indymedia.nl and considers organising a public =
debate
on the issues raised by these legal actions. It concerns issues of
