Witte de With is proud to present the first monograph by Randa Shaath, Under
the Same Sky. Cairo, available from September 26, 2003.
The book is part of the series of publications being developed parallel to
the project Contemporary Arab Representations.

Under the Same Sky. Cairo presents three series of black-and-white
photographs that Randa Shaath has realized over the last two decades.
In Profiles, In the Heart of the Nile and Under the Same Sky - Rooftops of
Cairo, Shaath has captured everyday life in the city of Cairo, the people on
its rooftops and on its forgotten islands. The texts accompanying the
photographs are by Randa Shaath and Catherine David, Nuria Enguita Mayo and
Nadia Kamel.

Randa Shaath (b. Philadelphia, 1963) was born to a Palestinian father and an
Egyptian mother. She lived in Beirut from 1969 to 1977 and currently resides
in Cairo. She worked as a photographer for Agence France-Presse in Egypt and
Gaza in 1994, and has been working for the Al-Ahram Weekly newspaper since
1993. She has exhibited her work in Cairo, Aswan, and Beirut, and is
currently one of the participants in the project Contemporary Arab
Representations, Cairo.
