V2_ invites you to the official book launch of Understanding Media Theory:
Language, Image, Sound, Behavior.

This new book by Dutch essayist Arjen Mulder is a clear and accessible
introduction to media theory. Media theories have been developed over the
past fifty years by various authors around the world, but no synthesis of
their ideas has existed until now. Understanding Media Theory provides
such a synthesis. Sometimes humorous, often fascinating, and always highly
informative, Understanding Media Theory is a book meant not only for
students and artists but for anyone interested in the times we live in.

On the occasion of this latest publication by V2_ and NAi Publishers, Mark
Federman and Rudi Laermans will debate on selected passages of the book
with Arjen Mulder.

Arjen Mulder is an Amsterdam-based essayist and media theorist who has
taught at various art schools in the Netherlands and Belgium. He has
published four collections of essays in Dutch language and co-wrote Book
for the Electronic Arts (2000) with Maaike Post.

Rudi Laermans is Professor at the University of Leuven (Louvain), Belgium,
where he lectures in cultural sociology and sociological theory. He is an
essayist, author of several books, and his main fields of research are
social systems theory, theories of (post)modernity, and sociology of the
arts.

Mark Federman is a strategic thinker and head of McLuhan Management
Studies at the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University
of Toronto. He has more than twenty-five years of large corporate
experience in information technology, sales, marketing, product
development, and senior operational management. With Derrick de Kerckhove
he co-wrote McLuhan for Managers – New Tools for New Thinking (2003).

You are most welcome at the book launch on Thursday 6 May at V2_,
Eendrachtsstraat 10 in Rotterdam.
