This Conference explores current theory and research into perception, 
examining the new technological developments which help us to unravel 
the real from the virtual and explore the moments in between.

This striking exhibition will challenge both artists' and audiences' 
perceptions about visualisation, communication and presentation by 
exploring the realms between the virtual and the real.

SONIC DIFFERENCE: Re-Sounding the World - CONFERENCE
Alexander Library Theatrette, 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Sonic Difference Conference will focus closely on the works 
featured in the Sonic-Difference exhibition. Thematic strands will 
include: the archaeology of sound; voice and sound; radioland; 
bio-sonics; sound as morphology/physiology; future audio-worlds; 
sound and memory; sound as locale and identity.

SONIC DIFFERENCE: Re-Sounding the World- EXHIBITION
The Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery, Fremantle, Exhibition 
runs 9 Sep - 10 Oct
Venture into the mesmerising world of sound art - including audio 
installations, workshops and experimentation - and explore sound's 
pervasive impact on our senses, memories and narrative paradigms.

Friday 10 September
DISTRIBUTED DIFFERENCE: Cultures of Conflict - CONFERENCE
Alexander Library Theatrette, 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Distributed-Difference Conference investigates the future 
political and social impact of emergent new technologies. Issues 
canvassed include: globalisation; communication and conflict; the 
politics of the virtual; surveillance; tactical media; digitally 
designed as well as virtual culture.

DISTRIBUTED DIFFERENCE: Cultures of Conflict- EXHIBITION
The Bank, Midland, Exhibition runs Exhibition runs 10 Sep - 12 Nov
This exhibition explores the highways and byways of cultural osmosis, 
whereby what is 'popular' is appropriated, commodified and 
disseminated globally - often with highly unpredictable results.

BIO DIFFERENCE: The Political Ecology - CONFERENCE
Social Science Lecture Theatre, The University of Western Australia, 
8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Keynote Speaker: George Gessert (Artist and Editorial Advisor, Leonardo)
Plenary: Prof.Stephen Wilson (Professor of Art, San Francisco State University)
BioDifference will discuss the various approaches and paradoxes of 
Biological Art. The living, the non-living and the in between will be 
manipulated, politicised, aestheticised and debated. Activism, 
feminism and formalism.

BEAP enlivens Forrest Place with an exciting array of performances and events.

Sunday 12 September
DATA DIFFERENCE: The Dissolution of Locale - CONFERENCE
Theatrette, Central TAFE, Perth Campus, 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Keynote Speaker: Andrea Zapp, (Media artist and theorist, AHRB 
Research Fellow, Faculty of Art and Design/MIRIAD, Manchester 
Metropolitan University)
The Data-Difference Conference will present and stimulate debate 
around new articulations of virtual environments and modes of 
interfacing with them. Presenters will investigate ways in which 
viewers interact with multi-user/virtual environments (space) thus 
experiencing a dissipation of geography (place).

DATA DIFFERENCE: The Dissolution of Locale - EXHIBITION
spECtrUm gallery, Edith Cowan University,  Exhibition runs 12 Sep - 10 Oct
Data Difference opens up a networked world that simultaneously 
appears both expansive and microscopic. Interface with 
multi-user/virtual environments and test modes of immersing your body 
in screen space at this groundbreaking exhibition.

BIO DIFFERENCE: The Political Ecology - EXHIBITION
Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, The University of Western Australia, 
Exhibition runs 12 Sep - 3 Oct
BioDifference probes ideas concerning relationships with living 
systems and the interconnectivity of the different levels of life. 
From nature observed through the lens of human artifice and issues 
surrounding bio-commerce, to ownership of the body, gender and race, 
this exhibition presents an array of voices and discourses which 
calls attention to works engaged with life manipulation from a 
critical and activist perspective.

BEAP IT! (Week 1 Performance Event)
The Bakery Artrage Arts Complex, 8 p.m. till late
Artists from the exhibitions and conferences present and co-present 
performance work celebrating the first week of BEAP04.
