[spectre] The films of Kasumi now available from the Blackchair Label

San Francisco’s Microcinema International is proud to announce the 
release of two new short film collection DVD’s, “Synesthetics” 
and  “The Free Speech Zone” on its Blackchair DVD Label.  Both DVD’s 
feature the work of experimental filmmaker and musician Kasumi.

Kasumi’s films have been screened and awarded top prizes in festivals 
around the world, including The Adriano Asti Prize for Best 
Experimental Work, Montecatini International Film Festival Montecatini, 
Italy; Special Jury Award, Seoul Net and Film Festival, Seoul, Korea; 
First Prize, Athens International Film Festival; Best Experimental 
Film, Independent Feature Project, Chicago, and Official International 
Competition Screenings in festivals in Amsterdam, Ankara, Tehran, 
Paris, Sao Paulo, Ann Arbor, Madrid, London, and many others.

Films in the “Synesthetics” and “Free Speech Zone” DVD collections have 
been described as “extraordinary” –  New Ivar Cinema, Los Angeles; 
and “the result of unprecedented creativity” – Bitfilm Festival, 
Hamburg, Germany.

Kasumi was one of 15 avant-garde artists chosen to participate in 
CAMP ’03 the International Festival for Electronic music, Sound Art and 
Visual Art, held near Stuttgart, Germany last November.  She was the 
only participant invited from the U.S.A.

A worldwide presence since 1996, Microcinema International curates, 
exhibits, distributes and promotes innovative short films by 
international filmmaking artists whose deeply personal and culturally 
relevant works are typically marginalized by the mainstream 
entertainment industry.
