Opening the City Exhibition in 66 East
13 March -10 April 2004

Opening reception: Saturday 13.03.04 17:00

Opening times: Fridays 14:00-20:00, Saturday 12:00-18:00

66 East is a recently founded non-profit foundation and exhibition space
dedicated to the promotion of innovative interdisciplinary projects, studies
and positions relating to the city.

66 East is primarily interested in exposing and highlighting the implicit
aspects of the urban environment. This includes the interest in the
experience of everyday life as well as the presence of urban sub-cultures
and alternative urban visions.

66 East is dedicated to promoting artistic positions and points of view that
are relevant to the developments and debates of the different artistic
discourses, especially architecture and urbanism. This will be done by
challenging assumptions, stimulating critical interventions and by
initiating artistic activities.

The location of the exhibition space in Amsterdam's Indische buurt is
significant to 66 East's ambitions. In addition to its general interest in
the urban environment, the specific environment of east Amsterdam will also
form a platform for interventions, performances, projects and studies.

Opening the City, 66 East's first exhibition, will outline some of the
foundation's intentions. It will provide an insight into the hidden and
poetic dimensions of urban space. Opening the City will exhibit work by
contemporary artists, designers and architects that share this sensibility.
By showing a wide range of media and diverse understandings of the city, the
exhibition will function as an extensive portrait of the urban landscape.

66 East is pleased to invite you to its inauguration and opening of the
first exhibition on Saturday the 13th of March.
