Sandra Sterle deals with the models of communication and the media
technology, exploring the artistic and strategic potential of the image
manipulation. Using her own identity in the form of the fictitious
self-portraits, within the context of a contemporary society, she
stresses the difference between a personal experience and the
media-constructed images. Her video installation “Integration / Who
wants to play”, exhibited at the Galzenica Gallery, deals with
integration of differences between movement and inertness, movie and
video, masculine and feminine, artificial and natural, foreign and
domestic, childish and adulthood.

She is born in 1965, graduated from Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in
1989. She enrolled the postgraduate study at Düsseldorf Art Academy
during 1995/96. She has had six solo exhibitions and a few dozen of
group exhibitions at home and abroad. She participated in many art
workshops and programmes, mostly in the US. She received The Best Video
Award for the Young Artists at the international video festival “Medea”
in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. She is an assistant professor at Split Art
Academy, lecturing the new media art. She lives and works in Split and
Amsterdam.
