"Art That Works/Catch Me!" is a selection of art works striving to
review the current art production and to redefine the auratic quality
of a work of art in the context of the contemporary society.

Viewed from this perspective, the project presents artwork that
reaches the observer through its simplicity and is based on a pure
and clear idea and articulates itself precisely within the medium.
The selection focuses on works that do not presuppose additional
explanation, works whose perception creates the basis for the process
of both reading and understanding. In doing this, art works should
not “work” by means of cheap and seductive tricks and conceits; they
should stress that art can still “work” – that it can speak about
reality without vulgarising, simplifying or banalising the reality
itself.

The October Art Salon is a representative event featuring current art
production in the sphere of visual arts. It was established in 1960,
under the auspices of the City Assembly of Belgrade, as an exhibition
of the best art works in the sphere of fine arts. In 1967 it became
an important review of the current trends in applied arts, too. Owing
to its tradition of four decades, the October Art Salon represents an
important segment in the study of the contemporary art in Serbia and
Montenegro, a great exhibition whose selectors are prominent experts
in this area. In the course of its history, the Salon has changed its
concept and organisational forms, but it has remained a strong
challenge to creative consciousness.
