concert:
ALBERTO DE CAMPO (Austria/Alemania) / MIGUEL A. GARCÍA (Euskadi)

Alberto de Campo studied classical composition, jazz guitar, and
electronic music in Austria and in the United States. After working at
UC Santa Barbara designing experimental software instruments with Curtis
Roads, he taught at Media Arts Academy Cologne, the Institute for
Electronic Music in Graz and at the Technical University of Berlin,
where he held the Edgard Varèse guest professorship for Electronic
Music. He later also held a professorship for Music Informatics at Music
University Düsseldorf and, since 2009, he is a Professor for Generative
Art/Computational Art at the Institute for Time-based Media, Arts
University Berlin (UdK). Alberto plays with powerbooks_unplugged (just
in time programming on mostly unamplified laptops) and also
improvisation groups with acoustic instruments such as Quiet Noise
Quartet, Syntopia Ensemble or with musicians like Elisabeth Harnik,
Mario de Vega, Hannes Hoelzl, Joker Nies and others. He makes electronic
music with BlippooHazard (four musicians playing the Blippoo Box, a
hardware synth by Rob Hordijk). Recent projects include creating
software instruments and sound installations with Florian Hecker, e.g.
‘No Night No Day’ at Biennale Venice, and AuditoryObjects (Bordeaux),
and collaborating with Marcus Schmickler and Carsten Goertz on Bonner
Durchmusterung, a project involving sonification und visualization of
astronomical data.

Basque artist Miguel A. García (also known as Xedh ) focuses on sound
and its formal organisation. His works currently sit somewhere
in-between electroacoustic composition and improvisation, combining
electronic sounds, field recordings and “real” instruments to create an
intimate, immersive and intense experience. He is also involved in
projects such as Mubles, Baba Llaga or Válvula Antirretorno and has
collaborated with, among many others, Alexander Bruck, Michel Henritzi,
Coeval, Lali Barrière, Miguel Prado, Oier I.A., Oscar Martín, Rinus Van
Alebeek, Roberto Mallo, Seijiro Murayama and Zan Hoffman. He runs a
couple of netlabels as well, Larraskito and Doministiku.

And before the concert...

Monday 28.11.2011, 18:00h.

Making Micro-worlds – Models, systems, and interventions (lecture by
Alberto de Campo)

One of the most interesting options computers and electronics offer to
artists is the idea of creating systems (or potentially worlds) by
designing their components, and the inner logic that connects them; in
other words designing artificial causalities. This talk will touch on
the historical connection between cybernetics and the arts. I will
discuss some very interesting current artists and designers of such
systems for music performance, as well as discuss my own current works,
both in music and installation.

Monday 28.11.2011, 18:00h.
Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), classroom 349. Building
l’Auditori.
Free admission.
