*TELAS À PARTE / Besides the Screen Brazil Conference*

Cinema despite the image - USP / UFES, August 2014

We invite interested parties to participate in the conference TELAS À PARTE
/ BESIDES THE SCREEN, to be held in Brazil in August 2014.

The event is open to research projects of an academic, artistic,
technological or audiovisual nature. All the proposals will be presented
and discussed during a workshop led by international guests.

It is possible to participate with a wide range of works in progress:
essays, papers and theses; curatorial and editorial projects;
installations, performances, artifacts and devices; anomalous movies,
impossible screenplays and other forms of entropic cinema. We would
particularly welcome submissions from PhD candidates and early career
researchers.

The projects will be gathered by affinity by the selection committee,
forming two working groups. Each group will be assigned to a separated date
and geographical location: either the city of São Paulo (USP, 21-23 August)
or the city of Vitória (UFES, 25-27 August).

Participation is free, but attendance is limited. To be considered for
selection, please send an abstract of your proposal (~300 words) and a
short biographical note (~150 words) to the email besidesthescreen at gmail.com,
indicating in the subject SUBMISSION: BESIDES THE SCREEN 2014. The deadline
is 30 May 2014.

Besides the Screen is an international research network active since 2010,
involving participants from the UK, Mexico and Brazil. It means to
investigate the continuing development of audiovisual practices from a
materialistic perspective, deploying artistic and unorthodox methodologies
in the context of cinema studies. Its ever-expanding constellation of
topics revolves around techniques of projection, the centrality of marginal
processes, and the manifold systems of movie storage and transmission.

*CONGRESO BESIDES THE SCREEN BRAZIL*

Cine a partir de la imagen - USP/UFES, Agosto 2014


 Se invita a los interesados a participar en el congreso Besides the Screen
realizado en Brasil en Agosto de 2014.


 El evento está abierto a proyectos de investigación de naturaleza
académica, científica, artística y audiovisual. Todas las propuestas serán
presentadas y discutidas en un taller liderado por invitados
internacionales.


 Se puede participar con trabajos en proceso, de diferentes formatos:
artículos, ensayos y tesis; proyectos curatoriales y de edición;
instalaciones, performance, artefactos y aparatos; películas anómalas,
guiones imposibles y otras formas de cine entrópico. Son especialmente
bienvenidos proyectos de estudiantes de doctorado e investigadores al
inicio de su carrera.


 Los proyectos seleccionados se agruparan por afinidad, constituyéndose dos
grupos de trabajo: el primero se reunirá en la ciudad de São Paulo (USP,
21-23 Agosto), y el otro en la ciudad de Vitória (UFES, 25-27 Agosto).


 La participación es gratuita, pero la asistencia es limitada. Los
interesados en participar, han de enviar un resumen de su propuesta (300
palabras) y una nota autobiográfica (150 palabras) al correo
besidesthescreen at gmail.com, indicando en el asunto SUBMISSION: BESIDES THE
SCREEN 2014. La fecha límite de recepción de resúmenes es el 30 de mayo de
2014.

Besides the Screen es una red de investigación internacional activa desde
2010, que involucra a participantes del Reino Unido, Brasil y México. La
red abarca investigaciones relacionadas con el desarrollo continuo de
prácticas audiovisuales desde una perspectiva de materiales, implementación
de metodologías artísticas  y heterodoxas en el contexto de los estudios de
cine. De entre todos los temas de estudio que se abarcan se incluyen
también las técnicas de proyección, la centralidad de procesos marginales y
los múltiples sistemas de depósito y transmisión de películas. La
