What does the term ‘readymade’ mean in view of the radical 
transformations of the 21st century? One hundred years after Marcel 
Duchamp’s infamous /Fountain/ redefined what art can be, theorists and 
artists are querying the idea of the “already made” against the 
background of new aesthetic possibilities in our post-industrial 
present. The two-day symposium ties into the radical nature of Duchamp’s 
gesture and relocates it within contemporary (post) appropriation 
strategies in the age of globalized circulation of goods.

Five panels will open up new dialogues between theoretical research and 
artistic practice:
