Anne Laforet is an independant researcher. She has recently
completed her PhD in information science (from the University of
Avignon in France) on the preservation of net art which will be
published in the coming month. She has written a report entitled
"Net art and artistic institutions and museums" for the French
Ministery of Culture in 2004. She has presented her research in
Europe and Canada.<br>

Anne writes on digital art and digital culture for Arte.tv and
Poptronics.fr.<br>
She takes part in collective projects, whether art and/or research.

With some museums acquiring net art works in the recent years,
issues of preservation and exhibition have arisen. On the one hand,
the digital materials of these works are fragile and continually on
the verge of obsolescence. On the other hand, these works have to be
online and activated by their audience to be full works of art.
Preservation is both related to the material dimension of the
artwork but also is a dialog with the artist and the museum. <br>
<br>
In her book, Anne Laforet presents and examines an overview of
specific preservation strategies developed by the institutions,
archives, artists: emulation, migration, score, re-interpretation,
self-archiving, automatic archiving, etc (which can be also
combined)… and draws the proposal of an hybrid conservation she
calls the "archaeological museum". <br>

</a>Chercheure indépendante. Elle a fini récemment sa thèse en
information et communication sur la conservation du net art à
l'université d'Avignon qui sera publiée à l'hiver prochain. Elle
est également l'auteur d'un rapport sur le même sujet pour la
Délégation aux Arts Plastiques/Ministère de la Culture en 2004.
Elle a présenté sa recherche en Europe et au Canada.<br>
Anne écrit sur l'art numérique et les cultures électroniques pour
les sites d'Arte.tv et Poptronics.fr.<br>

Le net art rejoint depuis quelques années les collections des
musées, posant de nouvelles et complexes questions de conservation
et d’exposition. D’une part, les matériaux numériques de ces
oeuvres sont fragiles ; d’autre part, le déploiement complet de
leur dispositif suppose qu’elles soient en ligne et activées par
leurs visiteurs.<br>
Il faut donc tenir compte à la fois de la matérialité particulière
des oeuvres et de la façon dont la conservation dialogue avec les
autres fonctions du musée. Anne Laforet présente et interroge les
différentes stratégies de conservation expérimentées par les
musées, les archives, les artistes, etc.: documentation,
émulation, migration, partition, ré-interprétation,
auto-archivage, archivage automatique... et en tire la proposition
d’une conservation hybride, celle du «musée archéologique».<br>
