JavaMuseum
is happy to open its first online show on Monday, 3 September 2001,
entitled:
**1st of Java - Perspectives on New Media** the Show
and to publish the winners of the first
***JavaArtist of the Year Award***for 2001

**1st of Java - Perspectives on New Media ** the Show
 is based on an online competition and a series of selections earlier this
year.
184 net artists submitted more than 250 works.
37 finalists and one work of each artist extracted
form the essence of the show.

The show has no actual subject, but is intending to spotlight the actual
working of artists using Internet related technologies, and in this way
creating in the eye of the viewer the unity of an image consisting
on a variety of different aspects, a.o. technology, work out and artistic
approach.

Five (5) virtual spaces, i.e. "Living Room, Communication, Garden, Studio
and
Poetesses' Lounge", form the exhibition environment
where the art works are embedded in.

The competition represented also the basis for
nominating  the artists for
***JavaArtist of the Year 2001***, to be awarded for the first time in 2001
and in sequence annually.
The Award is an award of honour and is not connected with a material prize.
>From 9 nominations, which can be reviewed on the website, three outstanding
female net artists have been determined as JavaArtists of the Year 2001:
They are:
**Tiia Johannson (Estonia), mez {mary-ann breeze] (Australia), Jody Zellen
(USA)**.
Their artistic work will be represented in solo online shows
during the coming months.

JavaMuseum honours three artists
who combine artistic expression and statements with substantial power,
technological activity, and excellence in sustained work

Both events will go simultaneously online on Monday, 3 September 2001.

The exhibition will run until the end of 2001 and will remain afterwards as
an art resource on JavaMuseum server.

The exhibition is designed in Flash and curated
by Agricola de Cologne.
Required/recommended
hardware: minimum: Pentium III 450Mhz or comparable Apple Macintosh,
soundcard, fast Internet connection, minimum 56Kb, recommended: better
software: plug-ins: Flash and Quicktime
browser: MS Internet Explorer 4.0+ and Netscape 4.5+.
