On JoDi's presentation, 25th Januari, 2002 The Balie, Amsterdam

During the presentation of http://www.untitled-game.org,
a number of modified DOOM-games were shown one-by-one,
connected by closing each game via the main-menu, accompanied
by the well-known industrial samples.

These 'untitled games' have become abstract works, that themselves
play a game with your expectations and associations that are induced
by the very recognisable sounds and perspective views of the game-space.
Because of the repeated playing of the same samples and the visual
modifications, the sound and image let go of their normal context and
meaning, and become unrecognisable.

The combination of things that you do - and things that you don't =
recognise
triggers an effort to try to fulfill these expectations, by creating a =
new
context
that may satisfy both, based on the way you normally make associations.
This new context then, could be called a self-portrait.

You are what you see.

One of the questions raised after this presentation was ' why did you
make these works ? ' Di answered this in his unique and self-explanatory
way by saying: "eeeeeuh...". Which may seem a little vague,
but served it's purpose perfectly, for the critic was searching for =
answers
on a contextual level while watching the works, but missed the point.

He looked, but he didn't see.
