FACES-Beta Launch / Bits and Bites

FACES, an international network of women in media, has existed as a vibrant and 
lively community in the form of a mailing list since 1997, when it was 
initiated by Kathy Rae Huffman, Vali Djordjevic and Diana McCarty. Noting that 
the terrain of art and new media is essentially male dominated, the goal was to 
bring women in this area together and provide an international communication 
platform.

As lively as this mailing list is, it is not publicly accessible, so a desire 
has grown to give FACES a stronger public presence with a platform that can be 
actively used. For this reason the development of a web interface was 
enthusiastically started in 2004. The basis for the web interface is the free 
and promising open source content management system Mambo.

The current status is now to be presented at the FACES beta launch on 27 April 
2005

What does community mean?
