In the framework of the exhibition "Dispersed 
Moments of Concentration. Urban an Digital 
Spaces" of Hartware MedienKunstVerein (until July 
17, 2005; see www.hmkv.de) there will be video 
programmes on the weekends, each Friday and 
Saturday at 8 p.m. in the PHOENIX Halle Dortmund, 
Germany.

The programme of the third weekend (July 8-9, 
2005) comprises videos and manifestoes by Luigi 
Russolo (I), Dziga Vertov (SU), Gerd Conradt (D) 
and Paul Garrin (US) as well as Walter Ruttmann 
(D), Gusztav Hamos and Kirsten Winter / Gerd 
Gockell (D). It was curated by Dieter Daniels 
(HGB Leipzig).

The video programme is supported by the Filmstiftung NRW.

Part 1: City Sound / City Image

Films, audio pieces and manifestoes in which the 
city becomes the protagonist. Predecessors of 
contemporary audio art are presented as an audio 
visual program of the early avant-garde - with a 
prospect on the video camcorder revolution.

Part 2: Ruttmann/Remake

Duration: ca. 90 min.

In the mid-10920s Walter Ruttmann (1887-1941), 
German pioneer of  "absolute film", leaves 
abstraction behind and turns towards the city as 
his new topic. In Berlin he creates a film (1927) 
and an audio play (1930) - both of them 
pioneering works in their respective fields. 
After a long oblivion Ruttmann is recently being 
re-discovered - amongst others through artistic 
hommages and remakes.

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung "Verstreute Momente der 
Konzentration. Urbane und digitale Räume" des 
Hartware MedienKunstVereins (noch bis 17. Juli 
2005, vgl. www.hmkv.de) finden an den Wochenenden 
jeweils Freitags und Samstags um 20 Uhr 
Videoscreenings in der PHOENIX Halle Dortmund 
statt.

Das Programm des dritten Wochenendes (8./9. Juli

wird und Hörstücke sowie Manifeste. Vorläufer 
heutiger Klangkunst ergänzen sich zu einem 
audiovisuellen Programm der frühen Avantgarde -

Video-Camcorder-Revolution.

Dauer: ca. 90 min.

Walter Ruttmann (1887-1941), der deutsche Pionier 
des "absoluten Films", wendet sich Mitte der 
1920er von der Abstraktion ab - und der Stadt als 
neuem Thema zu. In Berlin entstehen ein Film 
(1927) und ein Hörspiel (1930) - beide die ersten 
ihrer Art. Nach langer Vergessenheit wird 
Ruttmann seit einiger Zeit neu entdeckt - u.a. 
durch künstlerische Hommagen und Remakes.
