Please join us at BALTIC tonight for the opening of Package Holiday, an
exhibition of the work of Monica Studer / Christoph van den Berg. 7pm,
Level 2 Art Space.
And come tomorrow, Saturday 9 July for a talk by Dr. Oliver Grau on
media art and virtual panoramas. 2pm, Level 1.
Oliver Grau is an art historian and media scientist who lectures at the
Humboldt University in Berlin. He is also visiting professor at the Art
University Linz (where he received Habilitation) and is head of the
German Science Foundation project Immersive Art in Berlin. His research
focuses on the history of immersion and emotions; the history, idea and
culture of telepresence, genetic art, and artificial intelligence.
Since 2000 he has also been developing with his team the first
international Database of Virtual Art. He lectures in numerous parts of
the world, has received various awards and is widely published; his
book Virtual Art: From Illusion to Immersion, published by the MIT
Press (2003) is in its 4th printing. Grau is an elected member of the
Young Academy of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. Currently
he is director of Refresh! First International Conference on the
Histories of Media Art, Science and Technology, Banff 2005. He is
presently professor at Siegen University.
