M.A.R.I.N. Workshop: Environmental Sensors and Sensor Networks in
Media Art
The Pixelache workshop with M.A.R.I.N. brings together artists and
developers working with environmental sensors which are either
connected as a network or log their data. During the workshop we will
set up two sensor setups on Suomenlinna island: SenseStage and API
Tatsipaa sensor node. The main focus will be on Xbee networking, data
retrieval and storage. How does context of media art impact these
designs vs. sensor data management in scientific environmental
monitoring?
Workshop leaders: Marije Baalman (NL), Matthew Biederman (US/CAN),
Tapio Mäkelä (FI), Tuomo Tammenpää (FI).

Hackteria: Bioelectronix for Artists workshop
The workshop is an experimental maker-workshop with multilayered
outcome for people interested in DIY-biology, microscopy and simple
technological interaction with living microorganisms for example
through sound. Participants will become involved in sourcing and
isolating microorganisms from the environment and develop open
hardware and software environments with which these organisms can be
both viewed and become the subjects for simple interactions. A primary
aim of the activity is to demonstrate that scientific/artistic
experimentation can take place within the DIY and open source domains,
and that biology and custom made electronics and software can be
friends.
The workshop is lead by Marc R. Dusseiller and Andy Gracie. It is
organised in collaboration with the Finnish Bioart Society

Mapping in Progress
An open think-tank on concrete mapping projects in progress. It offers
an opportunity to learn about different approaches to mapping ranging
from social mapping and geographical mapping to mapping economy.
Esther Polak/Ivar van Bekkum, Wouter Van den Broeck and Christian Nold
will introduce their artistic practice and put their current mapping
projects up to discussion. At the same time, the workshop invites you
to test you own ideas and concepts. It aims at generating ideas for
new projects as much as improving existing concepts and may result in
new collaborations.
Mapping in Progress is a part of 'map me if you will' programme
devised by Susanne Jaschko.

Edible Solar Cell workshop
The workshop will consist in building ‘Temporary photoElectric
Digestopians’ using the Aronia berry as a sustainable power source.
The workshop will be lead by Bartaku. Bartaku is a member of FoAM, a
transdisciplinary laboratory and a research group committed to
developing a holistic culture, by actively propagating resilient
cultural forms. FoAM’s members include artists, gardeners, cooks,
technologists, designers, writers and scientists from all walks of life.
Edible Solar Cell workshop is a part of 'Groworld Bazaar' programme.
