CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
*DATA ACROSS SCALES : Reshaping DesignConference*
Harvard University - Graduate School of Design, Cambridge, MA, USA ---
17th of April 2015
http://datascales.wordpress.com/ <http://datascales.wordpress.com/>
The Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Doctor of Design program
are hosting an international interdisciplinary conference open to the
general public. The conference focuses on 'data' and how it is steering
design practices across all scales. We are looking for expressions of
interest for talks from theorists and practitioners alike.
*TOPIC*
With the rapid increase of information technologies in our personal and
professional lives, we produce, share, collect, archive, use and misuse,
consciously or unconsciously an immense amount of data. This burst of
data production and collection has already had a profound impact on the
way we organise ourselves as a community. It drastically changes the
way in which we conceive, materialize and experience designs and the
physical world. These on-going transformations have permeated all layers
of social debates including issues of openness, transparency and civil
participation.
The questions brought about by these debates are also challenging
academic research and professional production. Under the umbrella of
'Data Across Scales' this conference aims to reveal and discuss how the
accessibility and processing of 'data' is shifting the design practices.
The conference 'Data Across Scales' opens an opportunity to juxtapose
these ongoing transformations in a diverse set of design fields: from
fabrication methodologies to evaluating and representing the rapid
transformation of the urban landscapes.
We invite expressions of interest for talks on the following topics -
among others:
* Data-driven design
* Data visualisation
* Computational design
* The input of 'programs' in our daily environment
* Open data and access to data
* Programmable materials
* Digital Fabrication
* Interactive Art
* Imagination, perception, representation, and production of urban space
* Research methodologies in design disciplines
*SUBMISSION OF EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST*
Talks: The submission should express in a short text of 500 words what
their interest, statements and/or work is in relation to the topic of
data across scales.
Please send your submissions in PDF format (additional audiovisual
material can be submitted in the form of online material with
corresponding URL) to the following email address by 30th October 2014,
23.59 GMT+1:
