Applications are invited for PhD research to join the I-Node of the
Planetary Collegium at the Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture on the
island of Cephalonia, Greece.
Topic: MOIST MEDIA
Deadline: June 30, 2015
Five PhD researchers will be selected to join the I-Node of the Planetary
Collegium. The successful applicant will work on a 3-year research sessions
and a 2-year writing stage. After successful completion, the researcher will
nominated as a Doctor from Plymouth University, UK.
Within a transcultural, transdisciplinary perspective, the Planetary
Collegium is concerned with the advancement of emergent forms of art, in the
context of telematic, interactive and technoetic media, and their
integration with science, technology, and consciousness research.
With a strong foundation in transdisciplinary research, the I-Node aims to
produce new knowledge in the context of art with special reference to moist
media. In response to the developments in new media art, the term Moist
Media was coined by Roy Ascott, the president of the Planetary Collegium, to
signal the 21st - century substrate for art; i.e. the integration of
silicon-dry computer systems and wet, living biology.
The I-Node is headed by Katerina Karoussos and the research focuses on four
topics:
. Technoetics, led by Roy Ascott: centered around the technology of
consciousness
. Theoria, led by Katerina Karoussos: centered on the state of
contemplation
. Virtual worlds, , led by Elif Ayiter centered on hybrid methods
between art, computing and online learning
. Meta-Narrative, led by George Papakonstantinou: centered around
the emergence of new architectural spaces through interactive multimedia
